In 1950, my
grandfather Herman Strobl began building homes under the name "H. Strobl
Realty". His craftsmanship was very high quality and second to none. Herman was
honored and respected by the community, his church, friends and family. He was a
very good man and a father figure to me. So much so, that I lived with him and
my grandmother Lucile for a period in the early 80's. That is when I had the
privilege and opportunity to work for him in the construction trade. I was not
only taught the correct way to use the many tools in the construction trade and
how to build with the highest quality
standards, but was more importantly taught respect, responsibility
and honesty. I consider this an honored gift given to me from my grandfather
that I will hold in my heart for the rest of my life. The saddest day of my life
was August 27, 1990 when my grandfather passed away. I lost a friend and a
father figure. After
After getting everything settled and in place I had a grand opening. This was more for my grandmother to be a part of this venture. My wife and I went all out. We sent out over 200 invitations, advertised the grand opening on TV and had food catered in. We did not have a huge turnout, but the most important people were there, my family. I gave a short speech honoring my grandparents then, to my grandmothers surprise, handed her a scissors to cut the yellow ribbon. This was one of the most touching moments in my life. As tears rolled down my face I went to my grandma to tell her how much I love her, gave her a big kiss, hug, and said, "I'm sure grandpa is here with us today". She replied with "Stevie, you are so special to me. I am proud of you and I love you. You'll do just fine". Grandpa, in honor of you and the life you have given me, I will carry on your name and business out of complete love and respect for you.

away, I received his original real estate sign (pictured to the left) which he
proudly displayed at his work site while building homes. In 2004, I started to
think about opening my own real estate company. I joined the field in 1998. In
2005, I started to put things in motion. Having a web site made naming my
company easy, or so I thought. I figured I would just go with Fox Cities Real
Estate, but I was not convinced. Something inside kept me from moving forward
with the name. My wife soon came in with the original sign and said "What about
this for a name?” It hit me like a ton of bricks and thought, how awesome would
that be to carry on my grandfather’s name. I was excited! My first step was to
go to my grandmother for her permission with this idea. I explained how much of
a tremendous part her and grandpa played in my life and how honored I would be
to be able to re-open the doors to H. Strobl Realty. We cried tears of happiness
together, she gave me a big hug and said, "Stevie, I would be so proud, and so
would grandpa". I had an incredible feeling come over me. It is though my
grandpa reached down and put his hand on my shoulder and whispered in my ear,
"You can do it son". Right then I knew it was right.
